The reading and the lecture talk about an interpretation made by palaeontologists about the fine lines found in the fossil of skeleton dinosaur called Sinosauropteryx. The author claims that this discovery does not prove that this dinosaur has feathers. The lecturer cast doubt on all the author claims. He suggest that this fine lines is very strong evidences that prove the presence of feathers in Sinosauropteryx.

First, the author states that after the death of animals they were burried in the volcanic ash, their skin is decomposed in the ash which have made the fin lines. The lecturer opposes this point. He puts forth the idea that the skin of the animals cant cause this construction of the fin lines because there are evidence of other animals which there skin is well preserved.

Second, the author believes that the lines remains of frills than remains of feathers. The lecturer refutes this point explaining that there is a chemical different between frills and feathers, she say that frills contain much protein compared to the composition of feathers.

Finally, the author mentions that the location of the fin lines is in the back bone and the tail of the animal, this indicated that they are not used to fly. The lecturer opposes this argument. She explains that feathers can be used for other function. She gives the example of a bird who have long feathers and use it to attract the male, in addition she claims that new researchers proved show that feathers were also coloured and this prove that dinosaurs use them to display.
