four days working
Both passage and the lecture argue about the new idea of reducing employees work time from five days per week to four days per week. the passage claim that this new method results in increasing workers lifestyle and is beneficial for them, however, the professor disagrees with it. the main reasons in the reading and its corresponding contradiction opinion mentioned in the passage have been provided as follow.
first, the author alleged that reducing working time, increasing employees'rest and leisure time. and also, it can increase the hiring rate to compensate for the difference between the amount of work done by four-days and five days working. On the other hand, the professor believes that four days working led to increasing company cost, because hiring more workers required more medical and health cost for each newly employed worker, and also increasing number of workers attribute the number of working supplement, computer, desk, etc, for instance.
second, it has been mentioned in the passage that, decreasing the working hour will increase workers joy of life and provide them more leisure time to do their work, however. as quoted in the lecture, this may increase the employer expectation and make them ask the workers to perform and do the same work defined in five days in the four days, which harm workers health condition and make working atmosphere unpleasant to them. moreover, it would decrease the rate of employing as managements and company owners intend and prefer to pay low to their employees and recruit fewer workers, further in some jobs, like manager it is necessary that the worker present at the position constantly and two-person for this kind of jobs is not favorable.
