Integrated Writing (TPO 45)
In the reading section the writer claims that although a theory supports that Did bees exist on Earth as early as 200 million years ago, many skeptics reject this theory by providing several arguments including no evidence of actual bee fossils, absence of flowering plants during that era, and lacking of some details in those nests. However, in the reading section, the professor states that some scientist found lots of solid evidence which proves that Did bees lived on earth as early as 200 million years ago.
First of all, the writer contends that no fossil remains of actual bees have been found from 200 million years ago. In contrast, the professor rejects this notion by stating that it is true that scientist didn't find any remains of actual bee fossils, but this happened because there were not enough trees which produced resins that could preserve Did bees fossils. In fact, there were very rare trees which produced resins that excrete resin.
Furthermore, contrary to the idea in the reading part suggesting that the absence of flowering plants in that period reject the possibility that Did bees exist on earth as early as 200 million years ago, the lecturer mentions that before flowering plant Did bees fed on non-flowering plants such as pine trees and after flowering plants became available on Earth Did bees evolved and relied on flowering plant ever since.
In addition, even though the writer asserts that the fossilized structures found in Arizona are somewhat similar to nest chambers made by modern bees, but they lack some of the finer details, the professor mentions that scientist found the same chemical materials in fossilized nests and modern nests which proves that Did bees and modern bees used the same water proof material to build their nests.
