The writer claims that there are three possible reason to explain the migration hypothesis of the edmontosaurs while the professor expressed different opinions against all these reasons.
Firstly, the writer believes that the demontosaur’s diet supports the migration hypothesis. However, the professor argues that demontosaurs don’t have to migrate to find food since Alaska’s north slope was warmer at that moment which means abundant food plant to eat. By the time winter came, the demontosaurs could eat dead vegetation to survive.
Secondly, the writer holds that many demontosaurs lived in herd so that they migrate to avoid the winter. The professor suggests that living in herd does not mean the migration hypothesis. They lived in herd to get extra protection against the predators. Meanwhile, creature lived in herd like elks doesn’t migrate either.
Lastly, the writer holds that demontosaurs had the capability of migrating long distance. Nevertheless, the professor points out that juveniles in the herd might slow down the herd so that they could not reach their destination. As herd could not let the juvenile alone because that could not survive the in winter, the herd have to stayed there and survive in the winter.
