The Chevalier de Seingalt

The reading and the lecture are both about Chevalier’s memoir accuracy.
The author of the reading feels that Chevalier’s memoir is not true and wondered how he remembered everything. The lecture challenges the claims made by the author. He is of the opinion that the memoir is real and exact.

To begin with, the author argues that Chevalier was not rich unlike what he said in memoir. The article mentions that he borrowed money. The specific argument is challenged by the lecture. He claims that even though he borrowed the money, he had a good reason for it. He is rich that is true. When he sold his property he couldn’t get money, so he had to loan first.

Secondly, the writer suggests how could he remember every detail in his conversation with Voltaire a famous writer. In the article, it is says that Chevalier remembered every that took place a long time ago. The lecturer, however, rebuts this by mentioning that he already wrote their conversation as soon as they finished.

Finally, the author posits that he gives a bribery for prison officer when he was in prison. Moreover, it is stated in the article that in his memoir he escaped the hole in the prison. but most people think he gave bribery. In contrast, the lecture’s positions is he didn’t give the bribery. He notes that it wasn’t easy to get out of the prison by bribing at that time. Additionally in the document a hole was found on the ceiling of the jail.
