In the lecture, the professor casts doubts on the three theories proposed to explain the cause of the little ice age. He asserts that those theories are out of date and lately information challenges them.
Firstly, the reading passage claims that disrupting of ocean currents contributes to cooler climate. Melted glaciers caused quantities of cold water into the Gulf Stream which is enough powerful to cause temporarily disruption. However, the professor does not agree the idea. He explains that disruption of ocean current will only affect certain areas such as Europe and North America , but would not affect another hemisphere. Since the theory can not explain cooler climate in southern area, it can\'t explain Litter Ice Age.
Secondly, the article contends that volcanic eruption sprays gas and dust into the air which can form into the cloud. Besides, these clouds prevent the sunlight from shining to the earth and thus cause the drop in temperature. However, the lecturer argues that dust and gas will also cause some visual effect that would be observed by people. For example, there are some dramatic sunsets or snow being black or brown. Nevertheless, there is no report at that time. Thus, he proposes the idea that volcanic eruption is not strong enough to produce enough dusts to cause the Little Ice Age.
Thirdly, the article asserts that dramatic decrease in human population contributes to the cooler climate. Much smaller population allowed many trees to grow which can absorb carbon dioxide. However, the lecturer is also quite skeptical about the theory. He thinks there is not enough time. He elaborates that human\'s population grew to previous level quickly. As a result, trees were cut down again to cleared the field for crops to feed growing population. Therefore, the forest is not long enough time to cause the global cooling of the climate.
