marco polo

Essay topics

The article introduces the topic of the legendary travels of Marco Polo which is the history around Marco Polo’s experience of China. The writer says there are lots of lies in this history. The lecturer disagrees. He says that there are some inconsistent parts, because this history was written after twenty years, but that is almost the fact.
First, the author mentions the relationship with Kublai Khan and the position of the governor in China. It states that there is no record in China of the Marco Polo story. The professor believes there are flaws in the author’s position. He contends that it might be a mistranslation about his position as ambassador which was not a very important position at that time. Therefore, it is unworthy to put on the history.
According to the writer, Marco Polo lied about having been to North China, because he did not mention The China Great Wall. The speaker, on the other hand, points out that the Wall was broken by the war between Mongols, and after it might be rebuilt. Thus, Marco Polo did not see that.
Also, the reading passage notes even Marco Polo did not go to China by mentioning Frances Wood’s book. According to the local merchants there were no Italian posts in Mongolian and China at that time. The professor rebuts this argument. He says the book also did not have accurate evidence on it, and some archeologist claimed in 2012, there is some evidence that Marco Polo went to a few churches that were located in China.
As you can see, the author and the lecturer hold very different views on the story of Marco Polo traveling China.
