According to the reading passage, it is stated that conditions on Venus are very extreme and inhospitable that keeping human presence there would not be possible and it provides the reasons to deal with the problem. However, the professor in the listening refutes the assumptions mentioned in the reading passage, and states that life on Venus can be possible by establishing a station that is floating fifty kilometers above the Venus surface.
Firstly, the reading claims that due to high atmospheric pressure at Venus, anything humans might land on this planet would be passed off. The professor casts doubt on this point by saying that due to the physical fact, pressure above the surface is lower than pressure at a surface. He goes on to say according to this fact, pressure fifty kilometers above the Venus, might be equal to the pressure on Earth. Hence, it can't be a factor to obstruct human presence on Venus.
Secondly, the article posits that there is no storages of water on Venus, and it's atmosphere is mostly made up of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and sulfuric acid, which breaks down the idea of establishing a permanent station on Venus. In contrast, the professor says that on that station established fifty kilometers above Venus' surface people can use available chemical material on the Venus' atmosphere to make water. Therefore, it will not be necessary to import water sources from Earth.
Finally, the reading says that because of high volume of thick clouds in the Venus' atmosphere, very little sunlight reaches this planet's surface that results in inability of humans to get electricity. The professor opposes this point by explaining that fifty kilometers above the Venus' surface not very thick clouds exist. As a result of this fact, light is not blocked in that level, and the station can use this reflected light and power cells; hence more electricity can be used to power the station.
