The passage states some doubt
The passage states some doubt, providing paleontalogists claim about the ability of the pterosaurs in power flight. It provides some reasons for it. However, the professors opposes the passage reasons, believing that these ancient creatures were actually capable of the powered flight.
First, according to the passage, the modern reptiles are cold-blooded, therefore, their metabolism is too slow to be afforded in powered flight activities. Since the pteroserous are clustered in reptile groups, they cannot afford high metabolism for power flight. On the other hand, the professsor provides some evidences that show the pteroserous has hair on its body. Similar to the birds, these hairy animals can maintain the warm tempreture inside their body so they have access to sufficent energy to sustain their powered flights.
Second, the reading states that large creatures such as pteroserous, that are as larg as giraffe, are not able to satisfy the limitation on the weight for powered flight. The professor refutes the passage claim, and she provides some evidences that show these large creatures have actually light weight. The pterosaurs bone is comprised of hallow structure that help it to be sufficiently light enough to fly.
Third, since the bird animals have very strong legs that help them push up into the air at ease, the passage has daubt about the ability of these pterosaurs because they have rather small muscles in their back leg. However, the speaker disproves this theory, stating that these ancient species had access to four limbs instead of two libs. Thus, they didn't require using further energy to push up into the air. When these animals were intending to jump into the air, their four limbs helped them both walk fast enough and jump high enough into the air.
