Question : Summarise the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they case doubt on specific points made in the reading passage.
The reading and the lecture are both about the Portrait of an Elderly Woman in a White Bonnet. The author of the reading feels that this painting was not made by the Rembrandt. The lecture, however, challenges the claims made by the author. She is of the opinion that the author opinion's are fallacy.
To begin with, the author argues that the painting can not be made by the Rembrandt because there is a inconsistent way about the woman in the portrait is dressed. The article mention that the woman is wearing a luxurious fur collar, but the Rembrandt, who was known for his attention to the details, would not have been guity of such inconsistency. This specific argument is challenged by the lecture. She argues that this luxurious fur collar was not there since the beginning, someone painted this fur collar to increase the value of the painting. Moreover, she says that the painting was modificaded 100 years ago.
Secondly, the writter suggest that the face of the woman appears to be illuminated by light reflected onto it from below. In addition, the author said that the master of light and shadow, Rembrandt, would never have made this kind of mistake. The lecture, in the other hand, opposes this by mentioning that the original painting was a collar that illuminated this painting. Furthermore, in the begining of the lecture she said that the painting was analyzed by a Scientific departament that proved the bond between the Portrait of an Elderly Woman in a White Bonnet and the Remrandt.
