Read a passage, listen to the lecture and then summarize how the lecture relates to the passage
The author fully supports the idea that the internet is changing the world for worse. The author claims that people have become less adventurous, have lesser attention spans and their critical thinking skills are decreasing. But the speaker states that the claim that people are becoming dumber is silly.
The author's first argument is that people have everything readily available on the internet and hence they have become more careful in their everyday lives. But the speaker weakens this, by saying that because of more information is available people have become more aware and exploring.
Secondly, the essayist's states that people have shorter attention spans because of all the distractions available on the internet. But the speaker casts a doubt on this by saying that, people have better multitasking skills and hence they can switch contexts more easily. If people have better multi-tasking skills, then speaker's statement doubts the credibility of the author's statement.
Finally, the author says that internet has diminished people's critical thinking and problem-solving ability as people can find all the solutions on the internet. But the speaker challenges this claim by saying that students no more rely on one source of the knowledge. Moreover if, the IQ levels have gone up by 10 points in the last 20 years, then the author's point is not supported by evidence.
