Recently, there has been a debate about the influence of declining in the reading of novel, plays, and poem on the society, which in turn may lead to culture decline. Many researchers support this idea, the author in the reading passage is one of them. While, others adopt another side of view, as the professor did in the lecture and he argues each point have been raised by the author.
First of all, the lecturer claims that history, science, and political analysis books are well-written books, when people read these kinds of books they get the same level of benefits as if they read novels or poems. Furthermore, they are intellectual and imagination stimulant as literature books. So, the text point regarding the bad quality of these books and the bad influence of them on the culture does not make sense anymore.
Second, the speaker asserts that listening to music and watching movies are not less important than reading literature. More ever, people can enjoy them and get benefits of them at the same time. Even though, the author tries to convince us that they are not important to the culture and they are just kind of wasting time.In turn, that would lead to decline in the culture. But the professor successfully refutes this idea.
Finally, the professor assumes the truth of the third point in the text, which talks about the low supporting to the literature. Then, he says it is the authors' fault because they used to write books with difficult language and hard to understand. So, no one like to read this type of books, which in turn lead to decrease in the desire of publisher to adapt these type of books.
In conclusion, the professor seriously challenges each part of the reading passage and he can successfully support his idea with many evidence.
