Apparently, there has been a debate about the possibility of controlling Zebra mussel's population.
Apparently, there has been a debate about the possibility of controlling Zebra mussel's population. A group of scientist holds a believe that there is no way to control Zebra's population, which represented by the author in the reading passage, while another group thinks that was in the past, but now a day there are a lot of approaches to stop this growing in Zebra's population, as the professor explains in the lecture.
First of all, the lecturer claims that it is true the Zebra can spread throughout the world by the ships, however, today the ships can get ride from the water they already used to balance the ship in the ocean instead of fresh water, so the Zebra mussels will die because they can not survive in a salty water. By this point, the professor successfully argues the first opinion of the author.
Second, the lecture asserts that at the beginning there were no predators for the Zebra mussels, the same as the reading material suggests, but with the time the aquatic birds start to feed on the Zebra mussels, and they can eat large amount of them. As long with this fact, the text assumption will be practically not true.
Finally, the professor agree with the author about the Zebra ‘s negative impact on the fish that feed on the plants, on the other hand, the professor maintains an opposite side of view regarding overall fish population, he asserts that the Zebra will provide food for the fish who live in the bottom of the ocean, as they accumulate there, so they have positive impact on another type of fish. That is in turn, negate the third theory in the reading passage.
