The reading passage and the listening is about the famous portait of an Elderly Woman in a White Bonnet which was painted by famous Duch painter Rembrandt. However, the reading claims that the protrait is not a work of Rembrandt and gives specific reasons behind it; whereas the professor said that after re-examining the protrait the researchers are confirmed that it is indeed a work of Rembrandt and refutes each point of the reading by explaining them.
First of all, the reading passage says the protrait has inappropriate dress combination which is usually not seen any work of Rembrandt. The professor refutes the point by saying that as the protrait went through an x-ray, it showed that the original painting had an simple fur collar. The luxury collar was added later to the painting to inhance it's value.
Secondly, the reading claims that the painting had light and shadow effect but Rembrandt was a master of painting light and shadow. However, the professor says that as the original painting had simple collar, it reflected light behind the face and it looked more realistic. After editing the original painting the reflection of light did not show properly.
Thirdly, the reading says that the protrait was painted on a severel pieces of wood panel which Rembrandt never used to do. But the professor opposes the point by saying that, the original painted was made on a single piece of wood from the same tree Rembrandt used to paint. The painting was glued onto a panel to make it more valuable later.
