Sidney opera house
The reading passage is about the Sydney Opera House which was designed by Jorn Utzon, a Danish architect, in 1956. He was selected between 230 architecture. His work was more like a sculpture than a building because its’ shape was changed according to the direction from which it was viewed. He claimed that the structure was according to organic principles. The Opera House was look like a sailing ship; in addition, a 200 feet high of roof which was the most revolutionized part of the structure changed it to a big challenge. The complexity and financial problems, causes this project was not finished up to 1973.
In the lecture, the professor stated that the Sydney Opera House is a master work because it is a unique structure which does not fit in any architectural category. First of all, it was designed and built based on new technologies so, it has qualities of modern building in that time but we cannot count its shape as an international one because it is imaginative. Secondly, although the shape of Sydney Opera House is like a ship in harbor, its function is not organic. Thirdly, we can count this building as a high-tech structure which is blend of art, architecture, engineering, and technology.
