The reading declares that wood companies in the United States will not bother to get eco-certification and provides three reasons for supports. However, the professor explains that this certificate has a good response in the USA also and refutes each of the author's reasons.
To begin with, the article states that American consumers do not pay much attention to the eco-certificate as they come across many advertisements and they don't have trust in it. On the other hand, the lecturer contradicts this point by stating that consumers of america able to distinguish between certified products and non-certified products. They do care about individual industry certification.
Furthermore, the passage claims that eco-certified wood will be more expensive, American consumers strongly believe in the price. Nonetheless, the speaker says that everyone will look for the price but they do care only if the price of one product is much higher then the others. And the eco-certified product price is not that high. He also mentions that American consumers also value to preserve the environment.
Finally, the reading contends that American wood companies need certification only if they want to do business abroad. The professor explains that American companies also have to compete with others around the world. If they behind the competition then there might a possibility that foreign companies can attract the consumers those who are looking for eco-certification. And foreign companies can take over the American market.
