The article declares that salvage logging is the practice to remove dead trees after the fire and severe storms in the forest it is a very helpful method and provides three reasons for support. However, the professor explains that salvage logging will create a long-run environmental problem and refutes each of the author's reasons.
To begin with, the passage states that this method helps to clear dead trees and make space for new growth which helps to recover from the disaster. On the other hand, the lecturer contradicts these points by stating that decompose is not necessary. She explains that dead trees provide soils and nutrition which helps in the future for other trees to grow.
Moreover, the reading claims that salvage logging helps to remove insect-like spruce bark beetle which damages the health of the forest. Nonetheless, the speaker says that the insect population will increase but they are not much harmful. She mentions that spruce bark beetle leaves for 100 years but we did not see any major damage. She also says that dead trees are not habitat for insect only but other species like birds also leaves which is useful for the forest, if we remove dead trees than we damage more to the forest.
Lastly, the reading contends that salvage logging has economic benefits. The speaker cast doubt on this theory she says that advantage is small and it is not long-lasting. She explains that Helicopter and other big vehicles are needed to remove dead trees which is more expensive. She also says that jobs are created but it is temporary and for that, we have to hire people who are more train than the residents.
