Rembrandt portrait
In this set of material, the reading section states that the portrait of an elderly woman in a white bonnet did not work by Rembrandt. The lecturer casts doubt on the main points made in the reading by providing three reasons.
The author claims that because of the way the woman dresses, it is not painted by him because he was known for his attention to the details of his subjects’ clothing. She rejects this point. After a thorough examination, they discovered that the fur collar added after a hundred years to make a painting more valuable.
The reading states that he was expert in paint shadow and light but in that painting part of the face was unclear. Nevertheless, she refuses this argument. as the fur collar added into original paint, part of the face became vague. while they remove an additional part, they found what would we expect from Rembrandt.
According to the reading, he always painted on a single part of the wood while the portrait painted on a panel that several pieces of wood glued together. The lecturer said the opposite of this point. As they added fur collar they had to enlarge the panel to make more ground. Also, they realize that the panel was the same as the tree that he used for his painting.
