Both the reading and the listening discuss the issue of the ethanol alternativeness. While the reading states that the ethanol is not good replacement for gasoline for some reasons, the listening casts doubt on each point made in the reading.
Firstly, according to the reading the ethanol causes global warming. It releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere when it is burned and helps increase heat in the atmosphere. The listening challenges this point by asserting that it is not adding the global warming. People made ethanol from plants and during the growing process that plants remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Secondly, the reading claims that the production of ethanol would decrease the amount of plants that are feed for the farm animals. 60 percent of the corn grow in the United States would have to be used to generate ethanol. The listening casts doubt on this point and mentions that creating ethanol does not reduce the amount of plants that grown for the animals. That plants are producing by using celulose and are adding to that plants that are not eaten by animals. For that reason the animals' feed will not be reduced.
Thirdly, the reading states that it will be never be able to comete ethanol and gasoline prices. Although tey are about the same on price, this only because government helps the producers of the ethanol in the form of taxes they give to government. And if the government were to stop helping, the prices of ethanol would increase greatly and it will be not much available. The listening rebutes this point, too and states that prices of gasoline and ethanol will be competable. In the the need of the ethanol will increase and the producers will increase the production of the ethanol. At that time the ethanol will be more available. And the cost of that in the near future would drop by 14 ppercend instead of increasing.
