The reading discusses Robert Peary a well known adventurer's travel to North Pole and generally supports its truth. However, the professor in the lecture, totally refuse to accept that this expedition can be real and gives three reasons to support her position about Peary's journey to north pole.
First, the passage mentions that this trip has been evaluated by a national geographic committee. In contrast, the professor believes that trusting in this investigation team would be wrong, since most of its members were consisted of Robert Peary’s friends who even assisted him by their funding to fulfill this trip. So, it would definitely be controvertial to trust their judgment about this expedition at all. Also, she adds that they just spended two days to authenticate all of the evidence provided for this journey, which is actually a short period of time for this amount of information assessment.
Second, the article talks about another person’s successful reaching to North Pole in a similar condition with which Robert got to the North Pole in 37 days. But, she refuses to accept this resemblence and indicates that Avery carried less bags and foods with himself than Robert Peary and got his food from the baggages which were thrown by airplanes in his route to north pole. In addition, he started his travel in a period of time that the weather was so much sever than Peary's trip time. Thus, this analogy can not be true.
Third, the reading considers the photo taken by him as evidence. On the other hand, professor opposes this idea and thinks that the photo is so much old to be used as a proof sign. Also, the shadows on it which determine the place of sun that can consequently confirm the location of image are so much faded that nothing can be derived from the picture accurately.
