In this set of material, the reading passage describes a public policy about smoking and the listening passage cites facts which cast doubt on the general statement given in the reading passage.
The reading passage states that a hotly debated issue exists about public policy which contains limitations for smoking. Generally, smokers think that they are supposed to have the freedom to smoke although they know the harmful effects of smoking. According to the smokers, health risk is not only available for smokers but non-smokers are also in danger while getting into a car as well. Moreover, sta arly, shows the results of secondhand smoke. Since secondhand smoking is also harmfull, 3000 people die of lung cancer every year. Smoking bans have impact on the business as well. It influences the profits of restaurants and bars because customer needs to go out to smoke. However, U.S. always saves the rights of people who wants to smoke as they pay taxes around 7.5 billion dollars per year.
The listening passage doubt on the statement given in the reading passage by giving crucial explanations. Altough smokers think that they have the freedom to smoke, they affect non-smoker people certainly. Therefore, they do not only harm themselves but they also harm people around them. The outstanding statement about secondhand smokers is appealing as a significant factor. Due to heart attack and such diseases, quite a lot people die as a conclusion of secondhand smoker.
