Essay topics:

summarize the points in the passage, being sure to explain how they address the specific concerns about forest fires described in the reading passage.

In the reading passage, the author states that many citizens required to replacing the 'let it hurn' policy with a policy of extinguishing forest fire as soon as they appeared because of the large scale of the damage caused by the forest fire. However, the professor refutes this idea and holds the point that the reasons listed in the reading are unconvincing.
First of all, according to the reading passage, the Yellowstone fires caused tremendous damage to the park's trees and vegetation on account of the trees were charred and small plants were incinerated after the fires finally dies out. While the professor believes that it is an opportunity for new plants to grow since the forest fires destroyed the plants that could not survive. Smaller plants that needed an open ground to grow took the place of trees that destroyed by the big fires. Some seeds wonld not germinated unless they are exposed to high levels of heat.
What is more, the statement in the reading material indicates that fires als did harm to animals due to the destruction of habitats and the disruption of food chain. In contrast, the professor challenges this statement by pointing out that population of animals will recover soon. For example, the small plants that replaced the trees after the fires created an ideal habitat for certain animals which will also attract predators to come. Therefore, the food chain became much stronger than they were before.
Finally, the auther of the reading claims that the ires destroyed the value of the park as a tourist attraction thus had negative consequences for the local economy. In the contrast, the professor argues that the Yellowstone forest fires was an unusual combination of sevevral factors such as low rainfall, strong winds and dry undergrowth. In this case, the fire would not happen every year.
