Both the reading and the listening discuss whether online encyclopedia is less valuable than traditional, printed encyclopedia or not. The former presents three major problems related to online encyclopedia but the lecture contradicts with each of the points.
First of all, The author claims that online encyclopedia has access to anyone to provide information thus there could be a lot of inaccurate information in it. However, the professor states that traditional, printed encyclopedias also have errors. She adds that there is no online or offline sources that are perfect and error less. In online encyclopedia it is easier to correct mistakes or errors where in traditional papers it is very hard to correct them.
Second of all, the reading passage mentions that hackers or unauthorized users can fabricate the information in online sources. In contrast, the lecture rebuts that critical important information are protected by putting them only read-only format. There are also some special editors who monitors the changes made and fixes the malformed data.
Finally, the text passage says that online encyclopedias contain depth information and so much confusing to find what is most important and relevant. On the other hand, the lecturer mentions that online encyclopedias have unlimited space and can provide information on variety of articles and diversity if topics. Whereas in offline or traditional, there is only limited space which does not contain elaborated information.
This is how the author and the lecturer disagrees with each other.
