The professor in the lecture casts doubt on the reading passages ideas, and he says colonization an astroids is not a practical idea because each solution has serious downsides.
First of all, the reading paragraph suggests that astroid low gravity has some benefit because it will make spacecraft land and take off easier than moon or mars and it would also allow a spacecraft to carry much more equiopment. The professor argues that astronauts will face many problems because of astroids low gravity. Because of low gravity they will lose their muscle mass and their bone density, thus they will suffer from losing muscle mass and bone density which make that impractical.
Secondly, the reading passage states that the businesses will sponsoring astroid colonistion because they could earn more than what they pay by mining minerals and spending back them to the Earth. Thus an astroid colony would be extremely profitable because their source of raw materials such as gold. But the lecturer contradicts that however mining metal seem profitable idea, but we should conoider a lot of factors. For instance bringing back precious metal from astroid would increase the cost which reduced the profit off that, and there is no guarantee that their prices stay high in the future.
Finally, the author asserts that astroids are a good option for colonization because some of them would be very easy to reach, which make them much easier and more affordable to get to and to get back from then a planet like Mars. While the professor proves that this claim is indefensiblesible by pointing out that astroids orbit is varied, hence maybe they will be close to earth is some point but they will not stay close to it. And getting asteronuts from that far distance would be challenging.
