Toefl Integrated writing-American wood companies adopting ecofriendly practices.
The Reading passage and the lecture are both about wood ecocertification. From their contexts, it can be stated that the discussion is mainly about if the companies in United Stated will adopt this practice. The author of the text claims that this ecofriendly practice is unlikely to be incorporated into American companies. However, the lecturer completely refutes the arguments in the article. Hence, arguing that these explanations are faulty.
Firstly, the it is said by the lecturer that American consumers distinguish the advertisements and do not treat them the same. It is stated that consumers have confidence in independent agencies. Therefore, they will favor wood eco certified by independent organizations. This directly contradict the reading passage that denotes that American consumers do not value and trust in advertising labels.
Secondly, the lecturer safely assumes that although consumers care about price, they also value other aspects od the product, for instance, the environment protection. Specially when the difference between prices are below five percent. This idea strongly contrasts with the article that mentions that consumers are motivated by the price, thus will choose to buy cheaper uncertified woods.
Finally, the lecturer believes that companies should care about foreign competition as many companies around the world have adopted this eco policies. The article, on the other hand, stated that American companies would benefit from these policies only if they sell wood abroad.
