Both the reading and the lecture are about dinosaurs. The author of the reading believes that the dinosaurs were endothermal animals (keep their body temperature the same with the change in the outer climate) providing three supporting reasons. On the other hand, the lecturer insists that dinosaurs were not endothermal and provides three reasons why she thinks this way.
First, the author of the reading points out that dinosaurs fossils had been discovered in the polar area. Only endothermal animals can live in the polar area due to the weather there. The lecturer challenges this point, she says it is right dinosaurs used to live in the polar, but the weather back then when dinosaurs lived was much warmer, it was warm enough for the non-endothermal animals to live there. Also during the cold periods, the animals may migrate or hibernated. Which means dinosaurs weren't for sure endothermal animals.
Second, the author of the reading contends that the endothermal animals' leg positions are usually underneath their bodies to help them run and sustain physical activity. Dinosaurs had their legs under their bodies not on the side like reptiles. The lecturer rebuts on this. She says dinosaurs needed their legs to be under their body so it can help with baring their weight and support their growing bodies. This was mainly the beneficiary thing from hading their legs under their bodies.
Third, the author of the reading mentions that endothermal animals have this Haversian canal that holds nerves and blood vessels and allows the rapid growth of the animals. The fossils of the dinosaurs are dense with those Haversian canals. The lecturer opposes that. She says that although dinosaurs had these Haversian canals, they also have growth rings, that show times of rapid growth, times of slow growth and times of no growth. When scientists studied those growth rings, they found the times of no growth were in the cold seasons of the year which is a good indicator that dinosaurs were not endothermal animals.
