TOEFL TPO 47 - Integrated Writing Task

In this set materials, the reading passage state that the Pterosaurs did not have enough ability for flying and provide 3 reasons. On the other hand, the listening section brings into question the reading points by providing different reasons (and examples).

First of all, the reading passage indicates that Pterosaurs were cold-blooded; hence, they had low metabolism and they could not produce enough energy for flaying. In contrast, the lecturer opposes this view by mentioning that fossils of these animals have shown some dense hair or feathers that cover their body. As we know, only warm-blooded animals have feathers to regulate body temperature and stay warm. Therefore, Pterosaurs were warm-blooded and this animal could provide enough energy for flaying.

Second, the reading argues that Pterosaurs were huge animals and had high weight; hence, they could not flay; in contrast, what the lecturer state is different. She points that the anatomy of these animals show that pterosaurs had hollows in their bones; hence, they had lightweight in comparison to their size.

Third, according to the reading, this animal did not have strong muscles in back legs for taking off and start to flaying as the same as birds. However, the speaker believes that birds and pterosaurs have many different. Birds use 2 feet for jumping and taking off, but the pterosaurs used 4 legs for jumping and flaying. Also, since this animal uses four legs for flaying, their back legs did not need strong muscles. Thus, they could run fast and jump high to lunch.
