TPO-04 - Integrated Writing Task Endotherms are animals such as modern birds and mammals that keep their body temperatures constant. For instance, humans are endotherms and maintain an internal temperature of 37°C, no matter whether the environment is wa

In the passage the author suggests that dinosaurs are endotherms as the posses many characteristics of endotherm animals. However, the lecturer is not convinced with the arguments in the text. He points out many reasons for which dinosaurs can not be considered as endotherms.

Author in the text describes the habitat of dinosaurs in the polar region, where they need to maintain a higher body temperature due to cold. But the speaker highlights that the polar regions were much warmer in past than today, so dinosaur doesn't need to maintain such high temperature in polar region, moreover in the cold days they might be moving to a warmer place. As they didn't not maintain the high body temperature they were not endotherms.

Additionally the author finds a connection between the leg position and the endothermy, stating if legs are below the body it enables the endotherms with physiology. The lecturer snubs this claim right away suggesting although the legs of dinosaurs were underneath body, it was just to support it massive size.It has nothing to do with endothermy.

Finally the lecturer points out that even though dinosaurs bones contained haversian cannals, which is a common property of endotherms as per the text they were not endotherms. This is because dinosaurs aslo contained growth rings in their bones which indicates that they can not have steady growth. Endotherms always have a steady growth, So dinosaurs can not be considered as endotherm.
