The article states that fuel cell- engines have several benefits over internal- combustion engines and will soon replace them. The author provides three reasons of supports. However, the professor states that though oil engines do have many drawbacks, such as finite resources, pollutions, the fuel-cell engines would not solve these problems. And she refutes each of the author’s reasons.
First, the reading avers that the hydrogen needed for fuel-cell engines cannot easily be depleted. Conversely, the professor states that the hydrogen is not available source as the author would like us to believe. She says water is not the direct source to get the hydrogen, but it derives from pure liquid state. This artifact is so difficult to produce and store. For example, in order to keep the pure liquid state, it should store in cold conditions, in particular a very highly temperature. This thing is hard to achieve with labs technology.
Second, the article claims that hydrogen-based fuel will solve the many of the world’s pollution problems. The professor refute this point by stating that fuel-cell engines will not solve pollution problems. According to the professor during the process of purification of the hydrogen, a highly energy will be needed, such as burning coal or oil. As a result, factories that responsible for producing the hydrogen will pollute the air and not by cars emit.
Third, the reading posits that fuel-cell engines will soon be economically competitive. The professor, on the other hand, opposes this point by saying that the hydrogen-based fuel is not cheap. She explains that during the manufacturing process, companies should use platinum element to undergoes the chemical reaction of the hydrogen to produce the energy. This platinum element is rare and so expensive. Also, she says when the companies use other elements to replace the expensive platinum, their attempts went unsuccessful.
