Culture consumption is changing, and there is nothing bad about this according to the professor. In contrast, the passage states that reading less literature will decrease youngsters intellectual skills.

Even though novel reading can exercise people’s imagination, the professor claims that there are other books that can also stimulate your brain and creativity such as science and history. These books are also great examples of good reading to improve the use of language and idioms, contradicting the theory presented in the article.

Furthermore, the reading emphasizes that people are wasting their time with music and TV instead of reading literature books, implying that youth culture is not sophisticated. The lecturer disagrees and points out that these other forms of media can also be a rich fountain of culture; so they are not less valuable at all.

Finally, the article implies that although there are very good writers, there is a lack of audience that will cause a big impact on this market. Nevertheless, the professor argues that point is the author’s fault. Modern literature is usually full of fancy and old words that/which can be really hard to understand and not interesting for the young generation. The professor even claims that readers from the past might not be interested to read “modern” literature.
