TPO-15 - Integrated Writing Task
The passage and the lecture posit two opposing views of destroying cane toad in Australia. While the passage presents several ways to prevent cane toad from spreading, the professor in the lecture states that it won't be easy to eliminate the cane toad and the procedures the passage present will have further negative consequences.
To begin with, the passage suggests building a national fence and which will prevent cane toad to spread in the region in which they are not living yet. And this process was previously helpful to prevent the spreading of rabbits. On the other hand, the lecturer said that young cane toad and the eggs of cane toad are mostly found on rivers and streams. So, even a fence is built, it cannot prevent the eggs and the young cane toad to spread to another region.
Next, the passage says that toads could be captured and then killed by the volunteer and the Australian government should organize a campaign and encourage the citizens to join them hunting toads. Whereas, the lecturer suggest that it is not a good idea to use an untrained volunteer to capture and destroy eggs because they might destroy other types of valuable species. As the cane toad eggs look similar to other types of toads eggs.
Finally, the passage informs that researcher is developing a decease causing virus which will especially be designed to destroy cane toad and not the other species. In contrary, the lecturer says that cane toad often carried out by the researcher and the collector to their native country South America. So, if the affected cane toad is carried to South America it will destroy South America's cane toad population which is vital to its Eco-system.
