The reading and lecture are both about the pros and cons of preserving archaeological sites in United Kingdom. The author of the reading believes that preservation of artifacts have been faced with serious difficulties and limitations with studying and preserving old relics. However, the lecturer casts doubts about the claims made in article and refutes all the theories presented in the reading passage.

First of all, the author points out that in 1950's the Britain's government has numerous projects such as construction of building, cities and towns, thus, the workers upon digging stumbled upon valuable archaeological pieces. The author mentions that the relics that was discovered were not been properly handled, but, they were destroyed. The point is challenged by the lecturer. He says that before construction began, the site will be first thoroughly examined by the archaeologist to see if there are valuable artifacts in the construction site. Furthermore, He argues that upon inspection if there are important relics in the field, builder, arhaeologist, government will meet in order to plan the excavation of the relics, thus, they will have team of experts to collect and preserve the artifacts.

Secondly, the author contents that archaeologist are not getting the full support with the government in terms of financial support. The article notes that changing of the government priorities resulted in decrease in funding in their projects. However, the lecturer rebuts this argument. He suggests that in every construction projects, archaeologist will be paid for their initial examination of the site. He elaborates on this by mentioning that they are paid for every consultation, which can support funding on research and additional studies on the artifacts.

Finally, the author states that there are less job opportunities for archaeologist. The article establishes that there are jobs available in universities and government agencies by it can only cater few applicants. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that many job postings are available for them. Moreover, He puts forth the idea that there are increasing demand for research, collecting and processing data, and preservation of artifacts which is highly paid for
