The United Kingdom (Sometime referred to as Britain) has a long and rich history of human settlement. Traces of buildings, tools, and art can be found from periods going back many thousands of years: from the Stone Age, through the Bronze Age, the Iron Age, the time of the Roman colonization, the Middle Ages, up to the beginnings of the industrial age. Yet for most of the twentieth century, the science of archaeology—dedicated to uncovering and studying old cultural artifacts—was faced with serious problems and limitations in Britain.

The reading and lecture are both about the United Kingdom which had a long history of human settlement. The author of the reading feels that most of the site that unearth by the archaeology have face problem because of the United Kingdom's less carefulness. However, the lecturer challenged the claim made by the author. He is on the opinion that new role adopted by the Uk and changed the whole situation.

To begin with, the author argues that many precious artifacts destroyed because of the construction of buildings. He also mentions that during the digging many of the artifact found in the site but not well preserved. The specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. He states that according to the new guideline if any site was visible, it was examined by the archaeologically very properly. If the site found as a value, then they make planed and allowed for the construction.

Second, the writer suggests that most of the archaeologically had less support. He also claims that the fund was granted by the government had little and difficult to investigate to sites. However, the lecturer rebuts this by mentioning that the fund of the construction site paid by the site owner, not the government. He also claims that if all the work cleared the owners paid the found to the archaeologist.

Third, the author posits that career as an archaeologist was difficult and the job position was limited. In contrast, the author position is that the new guideline provided adequate support for the archaeologist. He also mentions that by examing the sites they were writing reports, article and that time more scholar archaeologist existed which was the highest as ever been.
