Tpo 18 - question 1
The article states that Torreya taxifoha ,a kind of evergreen tree, is has declined in number, and soon become extinct. The passage provides three solution to save this plant; however, the professor explains that none of these solutions are accpetable, and refutes each one of them.
First, the reading states that Torreya taxifoha could be reestablished in the same microclimate which has been growing for thousands of years. Microclimate is an area which its weather is different from other surrouinding areas. The proffesor refutes this point by saying that it's a useless thing to do, because microclimates are changing, and are being affected by other things, such as the global warming issues and those stuff. Everywhere is becoming more dried, so it can't be guarentied that Torreya taxifoha can thrive again in these places.
Second, the article writes that this plant, Torreya taxifoha, can be moved to entirely different locations, away from Florida. Its seeds can be planted succesfuly in forests of north, because the tempreture is much coller there. The speaker refutes this point by mentioning that It could be a dangorous thing to do. She bring an ecample of another plant , black loccus, which were moved to north, and this plant spread so quickly that killed lots of other plants that were indanger. This action could have unpredictable outcomes.
Third, the passages assert that in order to save this planet, researchers can plant it in research centers in a closely monitored enviroment. The proffesor, however, says in order to keep a kind of plant in this kinf of enviroment; they should be planted in large scales and in large amounts. Because they are exposed to desiese and research centers don't have this much capacity to hold this amount of plants.
