The reading passage discussion is about the disadvantages of the replacement ethanol fuel with gasoline in the United States and provides three reasons to prove its claim. However, the professor thinks none of them is convincing, and this replacement does not have the mentioned disadvantages.
First, the text tells that the ethanol like gasoline is harmful to the environment and causes the global warming by producing carbon dioxide. However, the professor explains that this pretension is not valid. According to the passage, the ethanol is produced by plants which absorb the carbon dioxide. Apparently, the plants remove the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This beneficial point makes the ethanol good choice for alternative fuel because ethanol is not dangerous for the environment like gasoline.
Second, the author states that the creation of the ethanol can be decreased the amount of the animal's food. In contrast, the professor says that the producer can change the type of the plant for producing the ethanol. In fact, they can produce ethanol from selenium which is not eaten more like corn with the animals. Hence, it is impossible to annihilate this problem.
Third, the passage asserts that the cost of the ethanol will be much more than the gasoline if the government eliminates its helping for keeping the ethanol price like the gasoline. On the contrast, the professor refutes this reasons because with increasing usage of the ethanol its cost will be declining and be of the gasoline price. So, the government must not keep its price low.
