In terms of whether ethanol fuel considers a good alternative to gasoline, the reading and the listening are contradictory to each other. The reading provides three critics where made ethanol fuel not plausible to use, however, the professor argues against them and states that none of them is convincing.
First, the passage mentions that ethanol fuel is like gasoline in a term of producing greenhouse gas; thus, ethanol won't solve the problem of global warming. The professor contends this point by stating that ethanol fuel will not add global warming because of its process of growing plants and the benefits of observing carbon dioxide by plants, which it will remove greenhouse gases by the atmosphere.
Second, the reading claims that ethanol production consumes a significant amount of plants, which will limit its availability and its usage on feeding animals. The lecturer refutes this point by saying that ethanol production does not reduce other sources because of only part of plants that can be used to produce ethanol fuel. This part of the plant located on the wall and called cellulose and animals do not eat the plant walls; thus there is no negative impact on animals feeding.
Finally, contrary to the belief in the reading that the cost of ethanol gas is more than the cost of gasoline, the professor argues against this point by stating that in the future, when people start to use ethanol fuel the price will drop. He explains that increase production of ethanol will help to decrease its price as it becomes a demand of people. He mentions a study that shows when production of ethanol raises three times the cost will decrease by 40%.
