The passage claims that dinosaurs’ fossils contain remains of actual tissues of this animal. The lecturer does not agree with the ideas brought up by the passage and offers some counterclaims to reject them.
First, the author argues that there are some hollows in the bone which contain a soft substance. This substance can be attributed to remains of blood vessels. Conversely, the lecturer takes the view that usually bacteria colonize the hollows which exist in the bones. These creatures leave some trace of organic substances after leaving their colonization, so the discovered soft substance may be produced by the bacteria lived living in the bones.
Furthermore, the reading highlights the thought that microscopic tests have revealed the presence of reddish spheres in the bones. These spheres contain iron, the material which is essential for transporting oxygen in blood. On the contrary, the professor underlines the fact that these reddish spheres have been seen in other organisms which do not have blood vessels. This means that these spheres cannot be the remains of blood vessels.
Finally, the author suggests that recent research has shown that there are some amounts of collagen in dinosaur’s fossils. This fibrous protein is one of the main ingredients of a living bone tissue. However, the speaker states that collagen does not last for more than 100 thousand years, so it is impossible for the collagen to survive after 70 million years. In fact this collagen must have come from another recent source, like researchers’ hand.
