electicity cylinder
The passage provides us some information about the clay jars which have been founded in Iraq by local people. The article states that these jars contain some copper and iron cylinders. The writer of the reading claims that the function of these jars could not be electricity batteries and provides three reasons of support. On the other hand the lecturer refutes all the reasons and holds an opposite opinion.
First, the passage asserts that some electricity conductors and wires should be found next to the jars, if they were batteries in ancient world. The professor challenges this idea by saying that the jars have been discovered by local people who are not trained enough. they might find wires, but wires or conductors are not interesting for them to pay attention to them.
Second, the article explained that the copper cylinders are very similar to discovered copper cylinder in an ancient location nearby. it is likely; they have same function, for holding scrolls. The lecturer argues that, it is likely, people had found another application for the copper cylinders in conjunction with iron cylinders and theses kind of jars were original of that region.
Third, the reading claims that ancient people did not have any devices to apply electricity and supposition of battery for them is not reasonable. The professor opposes this explanation as well. She said that maybe they function of the jars were different. For example, ancient people could use them healing or relieve the muscles' pain. another usage could be showing people that they have magical powers since the jars could shock people.
