TPO-27 - Integrated Writing Task The little ice age was a period of unusually cold temperature in many parts of the world that lasted from about the year 1350 until 1900CE. There were unusually harsh winters, and glaciers grew larger in many areas. Scient

The article explains three reasons that caused the Little Ice Age to happen which is proposed by the scientists. However, the professor explains that unfortunately all the information that is presented by the author are out of date and refutes each of the reasons.

First, the reading claims that the disruption of ocean currents caused the cooling of the weather. Because before the Ice Age there was a period of unusually warm weather that melted the glaciers. The professor opposes this point by saying that this effect only caused the weather in Europe and North America to become cold. He states that sudden hemisphere cannot affect the weather in southern parts of the Earth. Thus it cannot be the true explanation.

Second, the author declares that the volcanic eruption sends dark clouds of dust and sulfur gas to the atmosphere and caused the Little Ice Age. Nevertheless, the professor contends that if that amount of dust were released in the atmosphere, it would produce a visual effect which people could see it. For instance, the sunset would be colorful or the snow would be brown or gray. According to the professor, there was no report about such changes.

Third, the article avers that substantial decrease in human population may have contributed in the cooling of the climate as the number of trees that were caught by the human decrease and forest trees started to grow and they absorb the carbon dioxide which makes the Earth warm. The professor refutes this point by stating that it is true that there was a time that the human population decreased but the population of them start to grow back quickly and there was not enough time for such a decrease in the amount of carbon dioxide to make the weather cold. Based on the lecture when the population grows again they started to cut the trees again and the effect was not long enough to result in global effect.
