The lecture and the article are both about strange noise which was heard by russian sailor during the submarines patrolling. Moreover, there were no tracks of solid moving object in this area. The author of the reading believes that there are a lot of explanations of this odd sound. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article. she thinks that all those explanation can be disproved.
Firstly, the author of the reading points out that there is a high possibility that this noise was made by orca whales during their courtship ritual. this point is challenged by the lecturer. she suggests that the submarine`s locator could not detect whales because they live near the surface.
Secondly, the author of the reading contends that this wierd sound was produced by giant squid. Also, this theory explains that this object was not detected by locator, because squid has a soft body. The lecturer rebuts this argument. she supposes that this noise existed only for twenty years and then disappeared. However, giant squid lives there even now.
Finally, the article states that the another country`s submarine produced this sound. So, it is possible that the foreign submarine had some technology that allowed it to be undetected. The lecturer, on the other hand, thinks that submarine`s has another noise in contrast with this odd sound. Furthermore, submarine can not move with such a great speed which provides it to be incognito.
In conclusion, I would like to say that there are a lot of theories about origin of this strange sound, but all of them are able to be unproved.
