In fact, both the passage and the lecture discuss about carved stone ball found at a number of locations in Scotland. There are many hypothesizes that illustrate aims and meaning of stone balls. The passage expresses three theories; however, the lecturer disagrees with the proposed claims and rejects them by holding convincing reasons.
First, the passage mentions considering the shape of the balls some researchers believe that these stone balls have used as fighting or hunting equipment; nonetheless, the lecturer doesn't reinforce that hypothesis by emphasizing that the stone balls weren't damaged; therefore, they didn't weapon.
Next, as the passage claimed, some people according to the identical shape of spherical stones think they were used for measuring the weight of grain or other food; actually, they were a standard scale in trade. The lecturer doesn't support the passage idea by adding the different density of stones. Although, the size of stones is approximately equal, the weight of them directly depends on type of stones used for producing.
Finally, as indicated by the passage regarding to stones intricate design, the round balls made from stone presumably was used as a hierarchal symbol in society; however, the lecturer rejects that by asking questions about location of stones after dyeing; in other words, lecturer mentioned the claim that stones balls haven't found in grave or cemetery in order to confirm the third idea
