The reading and the lecture both discuss cloud seeding. While the reading states that cloud seeding is an effective method to protect farms from hails and provides a few evidence of support, On the other hand, the lecture cast doubt on this claim by saying that it is not clear that the cloud seeding technique is effective and refutes each one of the evidence provided in the passage.

To begin with, the reading asserts that in the laboratory settings while adding silver iodide to cold water vapor, they observed light snow instead of hail pellets which is not harmful to vegetation and crops. The lecture contradicts this point by stating that Lab silver Iodide prevents any precipitations whether hail, rain, or snow. Consequently, reduce the amount of rain will lead to drought season which will have an extremely negative effect on the crops in the area.

In addition, the reading claims that cloud seeding has been successfully used to control precipitation in some Asian cities. Furthermore, the optimistic results from using this method in Asia advocate that it could be used effectively to protect farms in the United States as well. The professor refutes this point by pointing out that Cloud seeding approach cannot be repeated in the United States, for the reason that this method would perfectly protect crops in cities with high pollution rates but not in unpolluted areas.

Moreover, The reading states that one study has been conducted in the central of the United States and revealed that hail deterioration decreased in areas where the cloud seeding was used and monitored. Nevertheless, the professor explains that hail damage declined is not limited to the central areas but also south, north, west, and east. In fact all regions of the United States. This is a result of natural variations in the weather but not the cloud seeding technique.
