In the set of the materials, the article states that a lot of birds injure due to use of glass in the building and provides some solution to prevent from this hurt. However, in the lecture the professor explains that none of these solutions can stop the bird's injury and refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading claims that if the glass company produce one-way glass, the birds don't try to fly through it because they can't see the interior and recognize it as a barrier. Nevertheless, the professor argues that this type of glass reflex the environment like the mirror and it is as bad as regular glass. According to the professor, the birds can't determine this mirror since most of the time this mirror reflect the sky. Hence, one-way glass isn't the practical method.
Second, the reading passage says that using glasses with designs such as painting and strips can prevent birds from trying to pass it. Nonetheless, the professor counters this point by stating that most of the birds consider the thin opening of the glasses' design as a hole, so they try to pass through it. He states that unpainted area must be very small to inhibit the bird's injury. On the other hand, small unpainted reduce the view of outdoors.
Third, the reading makes the argumentation that because a bird can sense the earth magnetic fields, using some material that emits magnetic signal can help the bird to avoid glasses. The professor refutes this claim by pointing out that birds use this ability to migration and they don't use it for short distance like moving from one building to another one. Therefore, putting a magnetic field in glasses is not a good idea.
