Both the reading and the lecture discuss about the glass windows in high building. The reading says that by making some changes in the glasses we prevent birds getting injury. But, the lecture refutes this that it has negative impact and injuries on birds.
Firstly, the passage states that using one way glass allow residents to see from inside the room, at the same time for birds it looks like solid stuff, so the won't strike on them which is causes for injury. The lecture counter this point by saying that the one way glasses will act like a mirror, imagine that if the tree image on the glass they think that is real tree and they try to go through it which causes harm to them. Moreover, it cannot sense the difference between the real and reflection images that makes hard for birds.
Secondly, the passage suggests that colorful designs such as stripe that makes the birds to feel like some obstruction is there on the way to fly, so the take other route for their flight. The professor opposes this statement by explaining that making stripes on the window looks like a hole, so, they want to get into that for food and so on. Further, to prevent this we have to make very closer stripes that makes the resident cannot see anything from their window.
Thirdly, the reading claims that magnetic field could be useful for avoid birds striking on window glasses because the sense the magnetic fields by nature. Again, The speaker challenges this idea by stating that it uses the signal detecting sense while it travels for long distance like migration from cold to warmer climate. For short distance it won't use it and uses the eye sight and brightness of the sunlight.
