Based on the given materials, the article as well as lecture discusses about a European silver coin which was discoverd at a Native American archaeological site in the state of Maine in the United States. The Author states that these coins could not be genuine peice of historical evidence for the Norse who traveled across the Atlantic Ocean and came into contact with Native Americans. That being said, the lecturer provides several ideas to repudiate this claim.
Initially, the author says that great distance from Norse settlements could be a strictly reason to state that the coins are fake evidence. However, the lecturer explains that some other objects was found in great distance from Norse settlements. Thus, it mays Native Americans tend to obtain objects from European travellers not particularly the coins.
Second, the writer proclaims that no other coins found at the north of America continental, especially the canadian sites. Yet again, the speaker underscores that the European settlers brought up coin to every spots of america and canadian sites. As we know, they settled there for a period of a time and they traveled back to Europe after that. These Eurpean travels bring the theory that they may packed up coins from canadian sites and moved back to Europe.
The final point of contention between reading and listening passages is the function of silver coins in America. The author thinks the silver coins were usless in the eleventh century between Native people of America. On the other hand, the speaker explains that Native Americans were appealed to unsual objects such as coins. Beside of that the coins were beautiful to them and Native Americans used them to craft necklace and jewerly. Thus, European travellers traded by silver coins.
