Question: Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they challenge the specific theories presented in the reading passage.
European silver coin
The reading and the listening materials have a debate on being original the discovered silver coin at the main. The penman puts forward 3 main hypothesizes, which are refuted by the following orator.
First of all, the writer suggests that the coin is founded in far distance from Canada and this means that someone may misguide the scientists. On the contrary, the speaker views this issue from an opposite angle. According to her, archaeologists have discovered many other objects rather than the coin in such a far distances and it may be because of Norse's interest for travelling.
The second point offered by the author is that only one coin is detected in this area and 1000 km distance between this coin and the Norse settlements in Canada reveals no relationship between them. On the other hand, the lecturer casts doubt on this assumption by saying that Norse were not permanent settlement and they may return the coins back to European with themselves again and again.
Last, the reading passage proposes that there was no logical or economical usage for Americans of a coin from a foreign country. However, the professor holds a different perspective. She explains that The Americans valued attractive and unusual objects. As a result, Europeans may trade with them by interesting and beautiful things.
In all, the ideas mentioned in the speech counter the opinions in the text in that the European silver coin could have a historical value according to above reasons.
