The reading and lecture both discuss the idea of colonization the asteroids. While the reading provides three benefits of asteroids colonization, the professor refutes, saying none of these claims are convincing.
Firstly, the reading states that it is very easy to land and send the tools to the asteroids because of the low gravity over there. On the other hand, the professor argues this notion by saying that it is easy to land over there due to the low gravity, but the low gravity cannot prevent the risk. For example, low gravity can cause loss of body mass. So, people who will live there they will suffer from health problems such as, lose of body mass and denesity.
In addition, the article avers that we can benefit from the raw materials like gold that we can find it at the asteroids surface. However, the professor rejects this idea by pointing out the profitability idea is not the whole picture. This is because the cost of supporting and getting these materials will decrease the profit. For instance, the large quantities of gold materials in the market will decrease the price. As a result, the profitability of selling these materials will decrease.
Lastly, the reading shows that it is very easy ti reach these asteroids because most of them are very close to the earth planet. Nevertheless, the professor question this idea by explaining that even it is not hard to get these planets, it will be very tough to get back to the earth. In fact, these asteroids are very close to the earth, but they cannot stay like this. In addition, many of these asteroids are going far from the earth. So, we cannot get back easily from them. In fact, out return trip will be challenge.
