TPO 48 In recent years, many frog species around the world have declined in numbers or even gone extinct due to changes in their environment. These population declines and extinctions have serious consequences for the ecosystems in which frogs live; for example, frogs help play a role in protecting humans by eating disease-carrying insects. Several methods have been proposed to solve the problem of declining frog populations.
The reding passage states that some regulations should be made to save frogs from recent changes in their environment that are dangerous for their existance. However, the professor in the leture casts doubt on the ideas made in the reading and finds them impractical.
First, considering the reading passage governments should state regulations to prevent farmers near frog habitats from using dangerous pesticides. In contast, the professor in the lecture contradicts the idea and further explains that such regulations are not economically suitable for those farmers. Without using those pesticides they will lose crops and this is a severe disadvantage for them in competeing against other farmers.
Second, the reading passage claims that the danger of fungus for frogs can be reduced by applying recent medical treatments on them. On the contrary, the professor in the lecture refutes the information presented in the reading passage and makes the point that these treatment have to be done individually on each frog. this process will involve catching and trating on by one which is impractical. Moreover, she mentions that it will not prevent spreading fungus among next generations so thiese treatments have to be repeated for each generation too.
Finally, the author in the reading passage put forward the idea that governments should protect water habitats of frogs from excessive water use, which will recover frog species. On the other hand, the speaker in the lecture contradicts the idea and adds that the main problem causing the draining of lakes and marches is global warming, not excessive usage. global warming caused many species disappearance in recent years. Thus, governments can not stop water habitats from draining by stating some regulations on excessive usage.
