In this set of materials, bothe the lecturer and the reading passage discuss the possibility of sending human being to Mars. The reading passage firmly states that sending human to Mars would need to solve some problems which is virtually impossible with current technology. However, the professor mentions that the travel to the moon is really challenging but there are some possible solutions for the problems which have claims in the text.
Firstly, the article contends that a round-trip to the moon lasts roughly 2 years, thus the astronauts needs a huge amount of food, water, and oxygen which is impossible to carry. On the other hand, the professor articulates that the astronauts can utilize a process which is famed as hydropanic. In this process plants have been grown in the water rather than soil. In this situation, the waste water will be converted to clean water which is drinkable; besides, the level of carbon dioxide in the spaceship will decreased.
In addition, the essay alleges that in this long trip the astronauts will be in the zero-gravity environment constantly which have severe repercussions such as deacreasing muscle mass and lowering bone density. Nevertheless, the lecturer avers that a lot of astronauts have been in the station that orbiting around the earh for decades. Thus, they have never faced serious damages. Several technics have been developed so far, which the astronauts can be healthy by regular exercising. Also, the astronauts can use some vitamins and minerals such as calcium to avoid lowering density.
Eventually, the reading passage asserts that the astronauts in the Mars' trip would be faced with dangerous levels of space radiation and making a protecting shield is impossible due to weight issues. On the contrary, the professor declares the radiation level is always not in the dangerous limit. Therefore, it is possible to make a equipment which monitors the level of the radiation and the dangerous level the astronauts use an equipment for their protection.
