There is a discussion concerning the issue of establishing a novel fashion of broccoli that can be cultivated in East Coast, which the lecture in the listening puts forward some severe paradoxes against the claims expressed in the reading by invoking some cogent proof. She states that these explanations of the text are scant of validity.
To begin with, it is argued in the reading that cultivating broccoli locally may decrease the transportation cost, which in turn can decline the price. Nonetheless, the professor distinctly identifies the flaws views in the passage. Subsequently, she potently disproves the opinion by mentioning that the yield of the broccoli which is grown in East Coast will be very low, which means that seller should increase the price to maintain the profit. This make the saving of transportation cost meaningless.
In addition, strikingly a thorough counterargument made by the lecture is presented against the claim in the text in which author declares that scientists can exercise the genetic modification technology to create the original crop which have no safety problem. Rather, she maintains that the company engaging in the genetic modification have generated some hazardous food, which will let consumers not willing to accept their products anymore.
Last but not least, the reading passage takes the view that eating the vegetable opportunely will make people absorb most gorgeous material because the vegetable will maintain the nutrient and vitamin; on the contrary, the speaker repudiate the notion, since other local vegetable also possesses that nutrient and they harvest not only on summer. Therefore, people can purchase the local food instead of buying the broccoli.
